Floral, flamingos and pink, oh my! It is no surprise that the details of Katherine’s first birthday party were just about as girly as they come. I’m a true believer in “it’s all in the details,” and am completely guilty of obsessing over these minor necessities to make a party special.
My mama gets the credit for always igniting my creative spirit and being my partner in crime when it comes to party planning. Whether it be a birthday party, graduation celebration or my wedding (GAHH, we had so much fun!), hours upon hours are spent dreaming up every little detail. We may make ourselves (and our loved ones) crazy doing it, but it’s something we really enjoy doing and this first birthday party was no exception.
As I mentioned in part one, flamingos and floral have kind of been our thing since the beginning. So naturally it made sense to keep the theme going for Katherine’s very special day. From her outfit and desserts to the last minute (PERFECT!) fabric we found at Hobby Lobby for the table, everything pulled together even better than I imagined and I am so thankful for the memories from this beautiful day.
I tried to link and credit as much as I could (scroll to the bottom for a full list), but if you have any specific questions, feel free to reach out!
This flamingo Lilly Pulitzer dress was a gift from one of my best friends and I literally saved it all summer long crossing my fingers the entire time that it would still fit by September. It did! And it was perfect. The flamingo print is sold out, but you can find others like it here. My top is from Plum Pretty Sugar and is easily the prettiest pattern I’ve ever worn.
Do you ever have those moments when you see something and it is exactly how you pictured it in your head? I may or may not have let out a little shriek when I placed the floral cake topper Lace and Lilies created to go on this absolutely perfect cake from Sweet B’s Bakery. I found the cute little flamingo on Amazon and the end result had me seriously considering not even cutting into it.
This pretty pink drink tops the list as my favorite detail from the day! Inspired by Monika Hibbs (one of my favorite people to follow!), it was super easy and so pretty floating around the party. Recipe: 2/3 rose wine, 1/3 sparkling pink lemonade, top with a lemon and a pretty spray rose bud. If you’re in the market for a really beautiful pink drinking glass, you can find some similar to mine here.
As with any kids party, entertainment for the littles is necessary. I had my eye on this inflatable flamingo pool from Pottery Barn Kids (now sold out) all summer and was thrilled when it went on sale. Throw in some of those cheap plastic balls and check that off the list! We also sent everyone home with little bags full of pink cotton candy, which I’m sure parents loved me for.
Did I mention that the inside of the cake was pink?!
Designing invitations for myself is typically a nightmare because the ideas never stop rolling. I surprised myself with these though and didn’t even play my typical game of second guessing. I knew I really wanted gold foil, so I went with a smaller sized invitation to cut back on costs. With this type of gold foiling, the printer can only handle a certain paper weight, which is thinner than I prefer, so I backed them with a shimmery blush paper to make them a little thicker. Paired with a shimmery blush envelope and floral tape to seal it shut…WA-LA! I actually think I sent them out too early because I had them done so far ahead. Is that even a thing?
I’m a big fan of these oversized balloons and it was the perfect prop for first birthday photos. Let me give you a tip though; be sure to have them filled with as much helium as you can! I let the girl filling it scare me into thinking it was going to pop, so we stopped too soon. My adorable fringe tassel garland weighed the balloon down so we ended up not using it. Next time: go big, or go home! 🙂
As promised, links to the goods! And of course, a big thanks to Angie Terrell for the beautiful imagery. XOXO, KM
